Omega-3 and Coronavirus (Covid19)

As has been mentioned many times on this blog, there are many health benefits to taking Omega-3 and making it a part of your diet. The list goes on and on. Also discussed is the fact that seal oil really contains a very high amount of omega-3, and not just any omega-3, but particular forms of DHA, EPA, and DPA. The third one, DPA, is rarely found in nature, and seal oil is one of the best sources.

Having said all of that, has omega-3 been shown to have a positive effect on preventing a virus, and if someone were to be infected, does omega-3 help the body in eliminating the virus from the body?

Doing some research on the subject, I discovered that the Global Organisation for EPA and DHA warned people selling omega-3 supplements and others not to make specific claims regarding omega-3 and its ability to cure people of coronavirus, or any other virus. I will abide by these rules and not make any such claims either. According to GOED, there is insufficient scientific literature to make a definitive claim as to the effectiveness of omega-3 in treating a viral infection.

Having said this, there are studies which show that Omega-3 gives an overall boost to immunity within the body. For an example of such a study, you can visit: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6834330/

Omega-3 has been shown to improve immunity so it definitely cannot hurt to take it. I'm not going to say it is an actual cure for Covid19, aka Coronavirus, because apparently that has not been shown. Of course, Omega-3 comes with other benefits as well, which you can read about in previous blog posts here.
